Aluminum Veneer Thickness Selection and Project Cost Control
2026-04-20 15:24:12
The thickness of aluminum veneer directly determines the structural safety, panel flatness and deformation resistance of the curtain wall, and also has a direct impact on the overall project cost. The engineering design must be scientifically selected in strict accordance with specifications, wind load and panel size, to avoid blind thickening that wastes cost, and also to avoid reducing thickness that leaves potential safety hazards.

Mandatory Thickness Standards in National Specifications
- Aluminum veneer for outdoor exterior wall curtain walls: the nominal thickness of the base material shall not be less than 2.0mm;
- For indoor ceiling and interior wall decoration: 1.0mm~1.5mm is acceptable;
- Canopy, air conditioning louvers, sunshade components: ≥1.5mm;
- Curved, hyperbolic special-shaped panels and large-span panels: must be thickened to 2.5mm and above.
Key Basis for Aluminum Veneer Thickness Selection
- Panel sizing: the larger the panel size, the higher the required thickness;
- Building height and local wind pressure: thicken the panel for high-rise buildings and typhoon-prone areas;
- Complexity of the shape: bending, curved and hollowed panels need to be thickened to prevent deformation;
- Seismic fortification grade: appropriately increase the panel thickness in high-intensity seismic zones.
Scientific Project Cost Control Scheme
- Optimize panel sizing, reduce oversize panels, and reduce thickness requirements through reasonable grid division;
- Install stiffeners on the back of the panel instead of blindly thickening the aluminum plate, which can save 20%~30% of the material cost;
- Match the surface process according to needs: do not use PVDF coating for indoor, and do not use high-end ceramic coating for non-exposed areas;
- Unify specifications and models, reduce special-shaped non-standard panels, and reduce the premium of bending and processing;
- Optimize keel layout, adopt lightweight and reasonable design, and reduce the cost of steel auxiliary materials;
- Factory prefabricated construction shortens the on-site construction period and reduces labor and installation costs;
- Strictly control the whole life cycle cost: high-quality panels have moderate initial investment, and no renovation is needed for more than ten years in the later stage, with higher comprehensive cost performance.
