Transportation and Protection of Curved Aluminum Baffles: Logistics Precautions for Special-shaped Products

Special-shaped products such as curved aluminum baffles have special shapes, not as easy to transport and protect as straight baffles. Curved baffles in many projects are deformed and scratched during transportation, cannot be installed on site, causing construction delay and economic loss. Packaging, transportation and protection of special-shaped products have special requirements, which need common attention of manufacturers and constructors.

First is product packaging, which is the first step of protection. Straight baffles are usually packed dozens in a pack with shrink film, but curved baffles must not be packed like this, will be squeezed and deformed. Curved baffles should be packed individually, each baffle is completely wrapped with pearl cotton, especially arc top and two ends which are easy to collide should be protected with corner protectors, then fixed with special arc wooden frame, wooden frame radian is consistent with baffle radian, fix baffle on wooden frame, can't shake, put 1-2 pieces per frame, don't put more, avoid mutual extrusion. For S-shaped, wavy and other complex curved baffles, make shaping jigs, customize wooden frames according to baffle shape, pad each contact point with soft material to avoid shaking and friction during transportation. Products with high surface treatment requirements, such as fluorocarbon, wood grain, high gloss products, should be pasted with PVC protective film on the surface, then wrapped with pearl cotton for multiple protection. Outside the package should indicate product number, specification, radian, installation position, convenient for on-site goods finding, don't unpack to find goods, easy to damage after unpacking.

Second is loading and transportation, curved baffles can't be stacked flat like straight baffles, will press and deform the lower baffles. When loading, place vertically, fix wooden frames vertically in the carriage, baffle arc faces carriage side, don't face arc up or down, don't press things on arc top position, stuff tightly between wooden frames with fillers to avoid shaking during transportation. Carriage bottom should be padded with soft materials, no hard objects protruding. Cover with tarpaulin during transportation to avoid rain, although aluminum baffles are not afraid of water, rain will leave water marks on the surface, affecting beauty. Transportation route should choose routes with good road conditions, avoid bumpy roads, speed should not be too fast, especially when turning and decelerating, to avoid inertia causing baffle displacement and deformation. For long-distance transportation, it is best to find logistics companies with experience in large special-shaped transportation, don't find ordinary freight, they don't know how to protect special-shaped products.

Third is loading and unloading, curved baffles must not be thrown or dropped, use forklift or manual lifting, when manual lifting, need more people, one person every 2 meters, lift and place flat, don't let two people lift both ends, will bend and deform the baffle. When hoisting, use special slings, don't use wire ropes, wire ropes will bruise baffle surface, pad soft materials at lifting points, lift and lower slowly to avoid collision. When unloading, unload according to installation order, don't unload all at once and pile on site, easy to damage, it is best to unload as much as installed on the day, unloaded products should be placed on flat ground, pad wooden squares, don't place directly on the ground, avoid soil pollution and collision.

Fourth is on-site storage, after curved baffles are transported to site, don't pile up casually, should be placed in dry and ventilated warehouse, don't store in open air, avoid sun and rain. When storing, classify and stack according to installation position, place vertically or flat according to radian, don't press heavy objects on it, don't put together with other sharp things. Storage time should not be too long, it is best to arrive 3-5 days before installation, install upon arrival, the longer the storage time, the higher the probability of damage. Arrange special personnel to take care on site to avoid other types of work damaging baffles during construction, many project baffles are not damaged by transportation, but damaged by other types of work on site.

Fifth is protection during installation, workers should wear clean gloves during installation, don't touch baffle surface with dirty hands, don't step on baffles, don't put tools on baffles, avoid scratching and pressure deformation. Install according to number during installation, don't force bend or pry, those with wrong radian should be returned to factory for adjustment, don't force installation on site, will bend and deform baffles. If other types of work still need to construct after baffles are installed, stick protective film or cover with wood board to avoid welding sparks, paint, mortar polluting baffle surface. During electric welding operation, connect fire bucket at welding position, don't let sparks splash on baffles, sparks will burn small pits on coating, which cannot be repaired.

If small deformation or scratch really occurs, small scratches can be repaired with same-color touch-up paint, can't be seen if not looked carefully; small deformation can be gently corrected with rubber hammer and special tools, don't knock hard with iron hammer, will knock out pits; if deformation is serious or scratch area is large, return to factory for reprocessing or replacement, don't reluctantly install, affecting effect.

Many manufacturers don't pay attention to packaging and transportation of special-shaped products, use ordinary straight baffle packaging method, results half are deformed when arriving at site, exchange goods back and forth delays construction period, increases cost. Although packaging and transportation cost of curved baffles is higher than straight baffles, it is much lower than exchange cost, must pay attention to it. When choosing manufacturers, also see if they have done large curved projects, have special-shaped product packaging and transportation experience, small factories have no experience, packaging and transportation are easy to have problems.
