Technical Principle and Structure Analysis of Perforated Light-Integrated Aluminum Panels

2026-10-15 10:04:12

Perforated light-integrated aluminum panel is an innovative product in the field of metal decorative materials in recent years. It uses perforated aluminum panels as the front panel and LED light sources as the luminous body, integrating the two into a whole through structural design, forming a new type of building decorative panel that combines metallic decorative texture and translucent luminous effect. Compared with traditional solid light boxes, the perforated light-integrated aluminum panel retains the metallic texture and rhythmic sense of holes on the surface, while light can shine through the holes, achieving the unique visual effect of "metallic but not solid, luminous but not transparent". This product is widely used in building exterior signage, interior image walls, wayfinding systems, commercial displays, stage backgrounds and other fields, becoming an increasingly popular decorative material in commercial spaces and public buildings.

The basic structure of perforated light-integrated aluminum panels, from outside to inside (from the viewing surface to the back), is usually divided into the following layers. The first layer is the perforated panel, the front aluminum panel with regular or patterned holes, which is the exterior surface of the entire product. The perforated panel usually adopts 1.5-3.0mm thick aluminum alloy sheet, with surface treated by powder coating, fluorocarbon coating or anodizing. The second layer is the diffusion plate or diffusion layer, located behind the perforated panel, used to uniformly diffuse the light from the LED light source, so that the brightness transmitted through each hole is uniform, without seeing the point-shaped light spots of LED beads. The diffusion plate usually adopts milky white acrylic board, PC board or light uniform film, with a thickness of generally 2-5mm. The third layer is the light source layer, namely LED light bars or LED light boards, arranged behind the diffusion plate to provide the light source required for illumination. LED light sources usually adopt SMD LED beads such as 2835 and 5050 models, selecting different powers and color temperatures according to brightness requirements and color requirements. The fourth layer is the bottom plate or back plate, located at the very back of the entire structure, serving the functions of supporting structure and light blocking, preventing light from leaking out from the back. The back plate usually adopts galvanized steel plate or aluminum alloy plate, with white reflective treatment on the surface to improve light utilization. The fifth layer is the frame or keel system, which fixes the above layers into a whole modular unit, convenient for transportation and installation.

From a technical perspective, the luminous effect of perforated light-integrated aluminum panels mainly depends on three key factors: hole design, diffusion design and light source design. The hole design determines the pattern and brightness distribution of the transmitted light. If it is regularly arranged round holes, the transmitted light is a uniform point-shaped starlight effect; if it is a patterned hole arrangement, the transmitted light is the corresponding pattern or text effect. The size and density of holes directly affect the transmitted brightness—the larger and denser the holes, the more light passes through, and the higher the overall brightness; the smaller and sparser the holes, the less light passes through, and the lower the overall brightness. The goal of diffusion design is to achieve uniform illumination. LED beads are point light sources. If placed directly behind the perforated panel, the brightness of each hole will be uneven, with holes directly facing the beads particularly bright and holes far from the beads dimmer. By setting a diffusion plate or light guide plate between the beads and the panel, the point light source can be converted into a surface light source, so that the light is evenly diffused to each area of the entire panel, ensuring uniform brightness of each hole. The light source design includes three aspects: light source type selection, light source layout and power drive. Light source types include white light, monochromatic light (red, green, blue, etc.) and RGB full color, selected according to application needs; light source layout needs to reasonably arrange light bars according to panel size and brightness requirements to ensure uniform brightness; power drive needs to select appropriate switching power supplies or constant current drivers according to the power and quantity of LEDs to ensure stable LED operation.

The light source control method of perforated light-integrated aluminum panels determines the visual effects they can achieve. The simplest is constant-on control, where LEDs are always lit with only on and off states. This method has the lowest cost and is suitable for scenarios that require fixed color illumination. The second is dimming control, which adjusts the brightness of LEDs through a dimmer, and can adjust the luminous brightness according to ambient light or usage needs, saving energy and being comfortable. Furthermore is color temperature control, using dual-color temperature or tri-color temperature LEDs to switch between different color temperatures, such as switching from warm white to cool white, adapting to the atmosphere needs of different scenarios. The most abundant is full-color dynamic control, using RGB or RGBW LEDs with DMX512 or SPI control systems, which can realize various effects such as dynamic color changes, gradients, chasing, flickering, and even playing animations and video content. The full-color dynamically controlled perforated light-integrated aluminum panel has extremely strong visual expressiveness, suitable for commercial advertising, stage backgrounds, night landmarks and other scenarios requiring dynamic visual effects. In terms of intelligent control, perforated light-integrated aluminum panels can also be connected to smart homes, building automation or IoT platforms to realize intelligent functions such as remote control, timed switching, and scene linkage.

Perforated light-integrated aluminum panels have a wide range of application scenarios. Externally, they are often used in building signage, shop sign signage, building facade decoration, night lighting, etc., presenting metallic decorative texture during the day and luminous effect at night, making the building have good visual image both day and night. In commercial spaces, they are used in brand image walls, product display areas, reception desk backgrounds, window decorations, etc., highlighting brand image and product features through luminous effects. In public spaces, they are used in wayfinding signage, cultural display walls, guidance systems in stations and airports, etc., improving the visibility and information transmission efficiency of signage through luminous effects. In stage and performance spaces, they are used in stage backgrounds, KTV box backgrounds, bar decorations, etc., creating immersive entertainment atmosphere through dynamic lighting effects. In real estate marketing centers and model houses, they are used in brand display walls and project introduction walls, improving the quality and technology sense of the space through luminous effects. Different application scenarios have different requirements for product brightness, color, control method, protection level, installation method, and customized design and selection are required according to specific projects.

In engineering applications, the design and construction of perforated light-integrated aluminum panels need to pay attention to the following key issues. The first is heat dissipation: LEDs generate heat during operation, and poor heat dissipation will accelerate LED light decay and shorten service life. The design should ensure that the light source layer has good heat dissipation channels. In sealed products, the heat dissipation structure should be reasonably designed, and measures such as aluminum substrates and thermal conductive adhesives should be used when necessary to improve heat dissipation efficiency. The second is waterproofing: perforated light-integrated aluminum panels used outdoors must reach the corresponding waterproof level (usually IP65 or above) to ensure that rainwater does not penetrate inside and damage circuits and light sources. The sealing design should consider thermal expansion and contraction and condensation problems, and when necessary, install a vent valve to balance internal and external air pressure. The third is brightness uniformity: large-area luminous panels are prone to uneven brightness. During design, the brightness uniformity of the entire panel should be ensured through reasonable light bar arrangement, diffusion plate thickness, optical simulation and other means. The fourth is maintenance convenience: LEDs and power supplies are vulnerable parts, and the design should consider the convenience of later maintenance. Modular design and detachable structure can greatly reduce maintenance costs. The fifth is safety regulations: the electrical part must comply with relevant electrical safety standards, and outdoor products should be properly grounded and lightning-protected to ensure use safety. Through reasonable design and construction, perforated light-integrated aluminum panels can exert excellent decorative effects and luminous performance in various application scenarios.
